How to get more Dropbox space for Free

I make extensive use of Dropbox to share files between my office Pc, my MacBook Pro and my iPhone.  Furthermore, you can share complete folders with your friends/co-workers! It's a great service and it gives you 2 GB of free space or you can pay for more.

The first way to gain more free space is inviting people (250 MB each person succesfully invited), so, if you don't have Dropbox yet and want to be invited by me feel free to use my Dropbox Invite: we'll both have 250 MB of additional free space!

A simple and quick way to gain up to 640 MB is to go to this page https://www.dropbox.com/free and complete the 5 steps listed there (128 MB each step).

The Beta Version of Dropbox Mac and Windows desktop applications includes Camera Upload: an easy way to put all the photos and videos from a removable media in your Dropbox. You can ger up to 3 GB of free space: you just need to dowload and install the Dropbox Beta Version and plung in your SD card or your USB device or your mobile phone: the application will prompt you to upload photos to your Dropbox folder! For every 500 MB uploaded, you will gain 500 MB of extra free space (up to 3 GB)!

Only for Windows users: autoplay feature must be enabled. To enable that follow the manual steps suggest by Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715 or simply dowload and run their fix: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9743275

How to send SMS instead of iMessage

When you want to text someone that owns an iPhone with iOS 5 with your iOS 5 iPhone, it will always try to send it as an iMessage. It will use your data plan or your wi-fi, saving you some money.

That's good, but sometimes you already know that the recipient is out of data coverage and you don't want to wait the iMessage timeout before sending it as a normal SMS.
The trick is: send your message as usual, then tap and hold the message and choose Send as Text Message!
Easy!

You can do it since the delivered label will be displayed under the message!

How to install iPhoto on a first generation iPad (also on IOS 5.0.1)

During last keynote, along with the new iPad, Apple presented an IOS version of its famous iPhoto application. I'm not a big fan of the iPad, but I like to use it as a little backup for my photos while traveling!

As soon as I've seen the keynote, I would like to try iPhoto on my girlfriend's first generation iPad but, guess what? iPhoto is not officially available for iPad 1... I hate when Apple puts this kind of limitation to let you buy new stuff!!

Luckily rules are made to be broken :) So here they are: some easy steps to install iPhoto on the iPad 1, that actually runs pretty smooth.

Furthermore iPhoto is only available for IOS 5.1. So if you already updated your iPad to the last IOS 5.1 firmware you can skip these instructions and go straight to point 4.
Otherwise, if you don't want to lose your jailbreak, you must stay away from the 5.1, so we have to make the iPad think to be on the 5.1 :)

1 - Edit /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist changing the value from <string>5.0.1</string> to <string>5.1</string> using SSH (experts) or the iFile app available on cydia 2 - restart or respring your iPad
3 - Now Settings -> General -> About -> Version must be 5.1
4 - Download the iPhoto app from iTunes on your Mac or Pc
5 - Download iPhone Configuration Utility 3.5 for Mac OS X or iPhone Configuration Utility 3.5 for Windows
6 - Connect the iPad to your computer, wait for the iTunes to sync, then launch the iPhone Configuration Utility
7 - Locate iPhoto .ipa file (if you don't know how to do it read this) and add it to the Applications list using the Add button
8 - Now select the iPad on the left, choose the "Applications" tab, find iPhoto and click on Install

And we are done! Pretty easy :)
Maybe iTunes will warn you that the app is incompatible: just ignore it :)

Last thing you have to do if you are on 5.0.1 firmware: install iPhoto501Fix from cydia. iPhoto app will be more stable!
